How to Join
Becoming a South Florida Sister is a not a short or simple process, however, it is a calling and takes time and dedication. Each sister goes through a series of stages designed to help a prospective sister learn, develop, and grow individually and as a sister. This process can take a little over a year. The tears, sweat, and blood (tears from mace sprayed in your eyes because you hit on the whole football team, sweat because you are wearing black clothing in the heat of the summer in Fort Lauderdale, and blood from the brand new stiletto boots you decided to wear in the 2 mile parade) is different for each house of the sisters. We encourage each person to take his/her time because each individuals walk to becoming a sister is unique.
The most important step is to get to know your local sisters. When you see your sisters making an appearance at your local bar, hosting fundraisers, or passing out condoms or literature, come say hello. All your South Florida Sisters are eagerly awaiting to tell you more about the work we do and future events planned. It is important for the sisters to get to know you before you apply.
There are 4 stages: Aspirant, Postulant, Novice, and Fully Professed
~ ASPIRANT
Aspirants are not members of the House. The Aspirant is someone interested in joining. This is the time to get to know us, and for us to get to know you.
~ POSTULANT
After completing the requirements for an Aspirant, the Fully Professed Members vote to elevate the Aspirant to Postulant. You are now officially a member of The Order, and this is where your journey truly begins.
~ NOVICE
Meeting the requirements for a Postulant, you now need to make a decision. Which path will you follow as a Novice? Guard or Sister? If you do choose the path of a Guard, you can always become a Sister later on if your calling changes.
~ FULLY PROFESSED
It is a lot of hard work but a lot of fun too. If you feel you have the drive, dedication, and willingness to give back to the community then please contact the South Florida Sisters at info@southfloridasisters.org
